Overview

The Piteira Research Group – System Engineering – is dedicated to bring advanced Nanoeletronics, into mainstream applications within the semiconductor, biomedical, agrifood, industrial, and industrial markets.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team under the ATE Agenda funded by the PRR framework. We expect the candidate to contribute to the characterisation of gas-sensing systems and the development of calibration protocols for the measurement of dissolved gases in insulation oil samples

 

Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

 

  • Characterise gas sensors (e.g., electrochemical, metal-oxide, optical) with different gas mixtures;
  • Establish calibration strategies to the different sensors;
  • Develop a method to collect gas mixtures from the gas sensor test chamber;
  • Quantify gas mixtures using by Gas Chromatography with Barrier Discharge Ionization Detector (BID).

 

 

Mandatory Qualifications

 

Education

  • BSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Applied Physics, or a related field with a focus on chemical sensing and/or Analytical Chemistry.

 

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of optical measurements (e.g., absorbance, fluorescence);
  • Experience in sample preparation techniques (e.g., headspace extraction of gas samples and sorbent extraction);
  • Experience in the characterisation of chemical sensors.

 

Other Valued Skills and Qualifications

  • MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Applied Physics, or a related field with a focus on chemical sensing and/or Analytical Chemistry;
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation (i.e., Vis/NIR spectrophotometer and gas-chromatography);
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Matlab, Python).

Personal Skills

  • Creativity, and ability to work independently in an exploratory research environment;
  • Ability to team up with the researchers and engineers who are currently running the project;
  • Hands-on” approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines;
  • Problem Solving ability;
  • Good communication skills.

How the Selection Process works
 

A. Applications eligibility check
